St Michael By Craig

I have been researching St Michael because in my English class we are reading a novel called ‘Millions’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce. There is a character in the novel named Damian. Damian has a vast knowledge of the many saints there have been over many hundreds/thousands of years.

St Michael by Raffaello Sanzio

I decided to research St Michael because he is an Archangel. St Michael was never born – he was made by God, meaning he is eternal (he can’t die). Some believe that God made him on the first day that the earth was made before Adam and Eve were on the earth, but no one knows for sure when God created him. As I said he is an Archangel meaning he is higher ‘ranked’ than all other saints. There is a mosaic of him fighting Satan in St Michael’s Basilica. St Michael’s name actually means ‘Like unto the Lord.’ Some call him the Prince of the Seraphim.’ placing him over all other angels ever.

St Michael is the patron saint of, Grocers, Mariners, Paratroopers, Police, Sickness and those who fight against the enemies of God. His feast day is the 29th of September. He is the Angel of Death and Leader othe Army of God. It is believed that Saint Michael brought a Catholic Prelate back from the dead, and it is also believed that he saved a U.S Marine in the 1950’s from 7 Russian Soldiers. The evidence to this is that the saved soldier wrote a letter to his mother about his experience.

The prayer to Saint Michael is;

St Michael the Archangel,

Defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,

And do, O Prince of the heavenly host.

By the divine power of God.

Cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits,

Who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin souls.

Amen.
