Victorian Inventions By Maria, Niamh, and Kayleigh

 Our class have been reading The play of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.The time Charles Dickens lived in was The Victorian Times (1837-1901). We have been researching the Inventors of this time.

Here are some of the inventions of this time :

  • Karl Benz – The first cars appeared during the Victorian times, they  were invented by a German engineer Karl Benz. Karl was  born on 25th November 1844 in Karlsruhe.  This is now a very famous car company – MERCEDES BENZ!!!!!!!!!!   
  • Alexander Graham Bell – Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in1876. Where would we be if he hadn’t !!!!
  • William Cooke and Charles Wheastone – Electric telegraph developed by William Cooke and Charles Wheastone
  • Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in1876. Where would we be if he hadn’t !!!!
  • The first photographs were taken in the 1830’s.
  • Electric telegraph developed by William Cooke and Charles Wheastone.
  • London Road in Nottingham became the first tarmac covered road in 1845 .
  • In 1859 a national standard post box was introduced with green being used as the standard colour at first. I’ve never saw a green postbox !!!!!!!!

 Our English class also went a trip to summerlee, where we learned more about Victorian Inventions. We had a great day, and some of the information on our blog has been taken from the information we learned on our trip ! We have included a photo of our day below.
